Construction of the $6 million, 58,000-square-foot indoor recreation facility took ten months to construct and was jointly funded by Baltimore County Government and the Baltimore County Revenue Authority.
The brand new Reisterstown Sportsplex is Baltimore County’s first and only indoor public ice arena. The ice arena will afford groups and individuals the opportunity to take part in figure skating, recreational skating and skating lessons. In addition, youth, high school and adult ice hockey leagues will practice and play at the facility. Hours of operation and full details on the facility are available online at www.rtownsports.com.
"The Reisterstown Sportsplex is another great addition to the family entertainment scene in Baltimore County," said Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith. "Having a state-of-the art ice rink and soccer complex located in the same facility is just amazing. I think families are going to be absolutely delighted with what they see. I encourage everyone in Baltimore County to visit the complex this weekend. Once they do, I know they will return time and time again."
The facility also houses a separate artificial turf field for field sports such as soccer, lacrosse and field hockey. Use of the turf field is free from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. to Baltimore County Recreation Council leagues. The building is also available for rent for adult flag football leagues, birthday parties, corporate events and more.
“This is a great opportunity to partner with the Baltimore County Revenue Authority for future recreation in the County,” said Bob Barrett, director of the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks.
A full weekend of activities is planned to celebrate the grand opening.See the attached schedule for full information.
”Before the Reisterstown Sportsplex, no public ice rink existed in the Baltimore region west of I-95 or I-695, so area residents interested in ice skating or playing hockey were driving to Harford County, York, PA or Downtown Baltimore,” said Hanan Y. Sibel, Chairman of the Baltimore County Revenue Authority Board. “We’re pleased to be partnering with Baltimore County to provide citizens with this outstanding community resource and meet the strong demand for this type of facility.” Reisterstown Sportsplex is operated by Rink Management Services, the largest operator of ice rinks in the entire country.
Paul J. Gorman Architects, Inc. designed the facility and ensured the location and design of the arena will allow for future expansion if necessary. Schaefer Construction Management oversaw project construction and contracting services were performed by Total Site Contractors of Baltimore, MD. Site engineering was provided by Site Resources Incorporated.
