With over 600 square miles and 700,000 people Baltimore County is bigger than some countries. And like a separate country, the county is constantly changing and filled with people interacting. Overseeing the development and use of land is one of the most important duties of local government, and that's where Permits and Development Management comes in.

Our Development Management Division reviews new development plans to make sure they comply with land use
regulations and fit in with existing communities and infrastructure. Development Plans Review reviews the necessary public improvements each project requires, and Land Acquisition deals with the related rights-of-way, easements, etc. When the project is ready to go, Permit Processing, Building Plans Review, and Zoning Review take in permit applications and check for compliance with building and zoning codes. Building, Electrical and Plumbing Inspection make sure what is built is what was approved, and the Electric and Plumbing Boards test and license the electricians and plumbers. Our new Inspection Connection will allow you to schedule, re-schedule, cancel and inquire about building, plumbing and electrical permits and inspections.

When the building is finished, Code Enforcement keeps the day-to-day use of a property in compliance with county laws; and monitors the Rental Registration program.  Miscellaneous Permits provides dog licenses, gathering permits and dozens of other items.
