Music and Nationalism: Sounds of Change
What do Wagner and Grieg have to do with nationalistic uprisings in 19th century Europe? Pianist and educator Taisiya Pushkar leads an interactive examination of this important historical period, drawing interdisciplinary connections between musical, social, and political developments of the time. Students will learn about the nationalistic trajectories in several European countries, through live musical performance, multimedia presentation and discussion. Students will be encouraged to develop their analytical skills by examining music examples and discussing their own sense of nationalism. This is a fascinating conversation for history and music students alike!
