Olszewski Announces New Hotel Grant to Support Local Hotels, Motels and Short Term Rental Properties
TOWSON, MD — In the latest effort to support local businesses amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski today announced the COVID-19 Hotel Grant Program, a $3.5 million fund to aid hotels, motels and short-term rental properties.
“Baltimore County’s tourism and hospitality industry make our communities more vibrant and diverse and we are fully committed to supporting the recovery of the businesses in this important sector,” said County Executive Olszewski. “Amid this pandemic, we will do all we can to ensure the continued success of these critical economic drivers during this challenging time.”
Through the COVID-19 Hotel Grant Program, the County will offer applicants $557.47 per room with a maximum of $55,747 per property to support working capital, rent, payroll, and efforts to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, including cleaning-disinfecting services necessary and other materials.
Beginning on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at 10 a.m. applications will be posted and funds will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
To qualify for this reimbursement program, hotels, motels or short term rental properties must:
- Be a for-profit entity located in Baltimore County;
- Have been in operation as of January 1, 2020;
- Hotels and motels must have a minimum of 10 rooms, short term rental properties must have a minimum of 5 rooms and pay taxes;
- Must be open to the public and in operation by May 1, 2021;
- Be registered and in good standing with the State of Maryland via the State Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT);
- Not be in default on any loans from Baltimore County or delinquent on any County taxes.
This is the latest effort from Baltimore County to support small businesses impacted by the severe financial pressures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
