Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Leaves Two Critically Injured
At 7:37 a.m., Baltimore County Fire Department units responded to the 11200 block of Old Carriage Road, Glen Arm, for a reported cardiac arrest at a residence, which quickly escalated into a hazardous carbon monoxide (CO) emergency.
Upon arrival, fire department air monitoring equipment alerted crews to dangerously high CO levels. Crews quickly removed an unresponsive woman from the home and soon discovered a second victim, an adult male.
Upon investigation, personnel determined that a vehicle left running in an attached garage was the cause of the dangerous CO buildup. EMS personnel transported both victims to an area hospital in critical condition.
The Baltimore County Fire Department reminds residents of the importance of carbon monoxide detectors in homes and the dangers of running vehicles in enclosed spaces. If you suspect CO exposure, evacuate immediately and call 911.
