About
Hazelwood Skate Park will be the County’s second public skate bowl style facility, becoming an eastern Baltimore County counterpart to the legendary Lansdowne Skate Park (known by many as "the 'downer"), which was built in the 1970s. The skate park project is situated within the 3.4-acre park addition area that was purchased at a cost of $970,000 in 2009.
The Department of Recreation and Parks worked with the Baltimore County Skateboard Council on input for the design of this modern skate facility. The skate park will feature multiple areas and features that will offer something for all levels of skateboarding skills, from beginner to expert.
Hazelwood Skate Park, similar to other Baltimore County parks, will be open from dusk to dawn, with signage indicating this. The project does not include lighting or fencing.
Updates
The park design and construction project budget is approximately $4.3 million, with nearly $2 million in grant funding assistance including $1.3M in Maryland Local Parks and Playgrounds Infrastructure (LPPI) funding, $535,000 in Maryland Program Open Space (POS) funding, and $150,000 in State Aid secured at the State Legislature.

Highlights
This project will build upon other completed, underway, and planned Recreation and Parks projects in the greater Rosedale and Overlea-Fullerton communities. Earlier this year the department celebrated a revitalized Hamiltowne Park, the in-progress construction of the Rosedale Recreation Activity Center, and planning for a large-scale park renovation and enhancement project at Holt Park and Center for the Arts.
Most of Hazelwood Park’s acreage will remain wooded, preserving natural green space in the densely populated community.
